Chapter Twenty-two: The Baby Shower

3:12 AM

Who said that baby showers were just for women? I think that it is much more fun when you include men into all of the fun. That is what my husband and I did when we had our son's baby shower this year.

Him and I broke the tradition of having someone else plan the baby shower and we planned everything ourselves. I will admit, it would had been nice not having that extra stress of putting everything together but we had such an enjoyable time planning.

Our theme was Vintage Car! I will post some photos below of how we decided to set up the room we had rented for the shower.

We decided to go with navy blue and bright red for the color choices. We got our table cloths from "Mighty Dollar". I absolutely love that store! In my own opinion, don't waste money on cloth table cloths that are way more pricy, especially when you have children around.

Once everything was over we noticed at the children's table there were teeth marks, drawings with markers and pens, and spills from the food and drinks. It was so easy to clean because we just squished the plastic table cloths together and threw them into the trash can.

We also bought the plates, napkins, spoons, forks, and small red and white cheveron boxes at Mighty Dollar as well. Did I mention before how much I love that store? The big metal K was bought from Hobby Lobby (another store I adore!). It was on sale for 50% off and I'm thinking we ended up spending around $10-$15 for it. After we used it for the baby shower, it now hangs on my son's wall in his nursery. I absolutely love it!

Also the small old toy mustang below the metal K was a gift from my husband's grandfather for our son. We loved it and thought that it would go great with our Vintage Car theme.

My husband and I picked out all of these awesome signs from Hobby Lobby. I'm not sure on the price of each of them but they were a great deal. We used them for the baby shower and they are now hanging up in my son's nursery.

Look at all those lovly gifts! We were so lucky and blessed to have our friends and family there to celebrate the upcoming birth of our son. Everyone helped us out by buying the things we needed on our registry. We registered at Walmart. I plan to make a post about some of the important items we had on our registry and the items I love to use since he was born.

My husband designed the cake. He found a photo of an vintage car ad for drag racing and photoshopped our son's name, the city we live in, and the date. We printed it off on regular printer paper, took it to Krogers, and had them place it onto a vanilla and chocolate sheet cake. They then added the cool flames and lighting bolts, and blue outlines to the cake. We thought it turned out awesome and very unquie. We also did not have any to bring home with us because everyone ate every bit of it.

For our food choice and set up, we decided to have a hot dog bar (Sorry, this was the only photo my friend took of the food)! It turned out awesome and everyone loved it.
We rented a hot dog warming machine and had lots of toppings to go with it. Such as:
•Shredded Cheese •Jalopenos
•Green Olives •Banana Pepers
•Black Olives • Sour Cream
•Chilli •Melted Cheese
•Salsa •Pepperonis
•Pizza Sause
We also had nachos to go with it and a root beer float bar for the drinks. We also had other drinks such as Sprite and Pepsi to go with the drinks as well. The kids had fun trying different floats, such as an Orange Pop Float or Grape Pop Float. It was a hit. We wanted to try to have Drive-In type foods but did away with hamburgers and stuck with the hotdogs. It saved us time and money.

We had a table set up for the guest to come and decorate a onesie for our son. We loved having everyone do this and enjoyed reading what everyone wrote once we got home that night and had went through all of our gifts.

We had Five games picked out but ran out of time and only ended up doing three. The games we played were
Messure Mommy's Belly- Where you take a ball of yard and have everyone cut how big they thing the pregnant mother's belly is.
Draw the Baby- You take a index card, place it into your forehead, and try to draw what you think the baby will look like. This game was too funny!
Guess the flavor of Baby Food- We had three couples play this and both couples are blind folded. The woman was blind folded when trying to feed the 'Dad'. This was hilarious because they would try to feel around for their partners mouth and get the baby food all over their faces. Once they got the baby food in their partners mouth, the 'Dad' then had to guess the flavor.
Oh and I had almost forgot that I had an Instagram game where everyone who was snapping photos had to post the photos onto Instagram with the #TungateBabyShower and I chose my favorite photo for the winner.

Over all I must say year our baby shower was a huge success. Everyone had lots of fun with the games and the food was amazing. You don't have to go all out and spend tons of money on a Baby Shower. I say we spent maybe around $100 on everything. It is nice to have your family and friends get together and celebrate the upcoming birth of your child. 😊

Thank you for reading everyone. I hope this helps you with your own baby shower experience. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment.
xoxo,
India
